About

The Full Story

Paushtika Architectural design consultancy and Prakrti environmental design consultancy are
sister concerns working in tandem to produce contextual building designs, process-oriented
landscape designs, tasteful interiors and meaningful renovation designs that cater to the
functional requirements of their users. We pride ourselves on being a one shop stop for our
clients for their design needs ranging from the macro-level of master planning to the micro-
level of interior details.

Paushtika ADC was started by architects Rajesh George and Ar. Sajeev. K. Govindan after
their graduation in 1993 from the College of Engineering, Trivandrum. The landscape
architecture wing ‘Prakrti EDC’ was added once Ar. Rajesh George finished his post-
graduation in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia, U.S.A. They were soon
joined by Divya Rajesh, a landscape architect, also from the University of Georgia, U.S.A.
The firms have been in practice for over 25 years now. In 2020, the two proprietorship firms
were incorporated into a design and property development company called Orangerie living
environment (P) Ltd.

The company’s eco-sensitive and integrative approach to design has won it both projects as
well as critical acclaim. We work on a fundamental design philosophy and we follow certain
principles in order to abide by it.

Functional approach: We believe that the aesthetics of all our projects should derive from its
function - client directed, program-driven and site-driven. The starting point of all our design
is the functional program, which we strive to integrate into the setting that we create for it.
Context-driven: Contextual and circumstantial parameters are considered in the synthesis of
all our designs. The new created environment always reflects its context – social, cultural and
ecological.

Responsible design: We believe that just as the natural environment is the physical
expression of the many ecological processes that sustain it, so also, the man-made
environment should be the result of a stable equilibrium of many processes that occur within it.
In any given site, we start by being aware of the imbalance that is bound to be created in the
ecosystem by our intervention. And we strive to bring in a new balance by way of our
designs. In other words, our designed landscapes along with their buildings, are based on
process rather than a final product; they are designed to be active and adapting rather than
passive and still in time. In order to achieve this, we place a lot of importance on analysing
the site thoroughly in terms of factors like runoff, wind-flow patterns, ambient temperatures,
vegetation, local ecology etc.
